A misty fable tells of a master goldsmith, Richard Joyce who lived there over 400 years ago, was swept to slavery by Pirates, and eventually won his freedom. On returning to his beloved village he used his fine skills to create the Claddagh - a heart, symbolising love, cradled in two hands of friendship, crowned in a promise of loyalty.
While the Claddagh Ring has become a unique symbol worn by all ages to express their celtic heritage just remember by wearing the ring on your right hand with the heart facing outwards indicates your heart has not yet been won. Worn on the right hand with the heart facing inwards shows you have love under consideration. Worn on your left hand with the heart turned inwards means that two loves have joined forever.
